Notes from the Field: GPO vs Local Policies

GPO.jpg

Problem: An engineer was claiming that a certain audit policy was not applying to his servers.

Findings: The engineer was refering to the Local Group Policy Editor (GPEdit)

Resolution: When checking computer GPO settings always perform a Group Policy Results command.

How to: Launch CMD gpresult /h C:\temp\result.html /scope computer

As you may know Local Policies cannot be overwritten by Domain Policy

  1. The statement “Local Policies cannot be overwritten by Domain Policy” is incorrect. You really mean to say that the Domain Policy will not appear in the Local GPEdit.
